No playback in Premiere

I just got a new PC and installed Premiere Pro CC today. I create a new project, import video and when I drag that to the timeline it does not play back. I've gone to prefrences and clicked Adobe DV under playback, but this did not help. Installed and uninstalled many times. Same problem occurs.

Got Windows 10 Pro - 64GB RAM, Intel Core i9-7900X, and GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Twin x2.

Also, when I try to quit Premiere, it freezes and does nothing.

Can anyone help me?

Correct answer TomTF

It works!
I disabled a digital audio enhancer programme, did a preference reset and activated the Adobe DV button and now it does playback in both timeline and source window.

Big thanks to everyone who helped me!

Does playback not work only on the timeline or can you view the footage in your Source window?

If you create Bars and Tone in your bin, are you able to play that in the Source window or on a timeline?

Are you able to upload a sample clip of the non working files?

It does not play files on timeline or in source window.
Neither does the Bars and Tone.

Wasn't able to upload files to server unfortunately, so I can't give you a sample. But these files worked fine on my old computer using Premiere. I've tried a wmv-screencapture video as well - does not play.

What kind of media are you working with?  What camera was used?

Sony Handicam FDR-AX53
4K camera, but filmed in 1920x1080 - mp4 files imported into Premiere

OK.  I would expect that to work fine on your system.  Still, I do recommend using the Proxy workflow for all H.264 media.  Stick to the included Cineform presets.

Also, I recommend Step 2b below.  Report back.

I would also have a look at the Audio hardware settings, they can affect playback.

Hi TomTF,

I am sorry that you are facing trouble with the playback.

  • Do you have dual monitor setup or is it a single monitor?
  • Is this issue specific to a media type or happening with all of your files?
  • Try this: Open your project, click on File > Project settings > General and change video renderer to 'Software Only Mode' and delete previews. Let me know if that helps.

You just got a new PC, so I am assuming that you are already running on the latest video drivers.

Thanks,

Single monitor, updated drivers and changed to software only - nothing different unfortunately.
