Opacity Mask Tools

Question

Why couldn’t adobe just leave the masking as a part of the opacity tools? Like what the heck? All I want to do is feather the edge of a clip and I don’t know how to do that anymore…

You get total sympathy around here for initial frustration … this is a completely new system, not just a re-vamp of the older, less capable system.

So go to the Help files menu, naturally … they have extensive documentation and video demos on the new and vastly more capable masking system. This is now run by the same masking ‘engine’ as that in AfterEffects. The only difference is yes, more controls are available to run it in Ae.

Yes, it is very different in operation, and until you read and understand the differences, it will be very difficult to use quickly and efficiently. But once you do, for most uses, it is vastly improved. And fast. Not for all, but for most editing workflows.
