Premiere Pro CC 2018 has two options for video output:  directly from within Premiere or export to the Queue.  Is there any difference between them?

Both use Media Encoder as the encoding engine. If you Queue in Media Encoder you will be able to continue working in Premiere. If you export direct from Premiere you have to wait for it to finish to continue working.

With the same settings, you'll get the same result.

You need a powerfull machine to continue editing while AME is encoding.

If you want to play it safe let AME finish and then continue to edit.

To expand on Jeff's reply, you can queue to ME and then in ME tell it to start the export, and as noted above, it will pause while the computer resources are being used in PrPro so you can work efficiently in PrPro.

If you don't have ME start encoding immediately, it's also handy ... queue your exports to ME, keep working. When you get to a break in your workflow or the end of the day, start the queue in ME, and it will process while you're not working or while you're sleeping.
