Panasonic GH5 MOV files not working in Premiere

Just received my GH5 and started testing the different formats yesterday.  The MOV 4096x2160, 23.98p 422/10bit/LonGop 150mps LPCM is causing Premiere to crash. The mp4 3840x2160 ,23.98p 420/8bit/LongGOP 100mbs LPCM works fine.  I'm using the latest version of Premiere.

Thanks,

Chance Norris

    Hi chancenorris,

We're working on adding support for GH5 10-bit files in an upcoming update. Stay tuned

    Hi,

I also have problems with 1080-mov-files in 8 bit from the GH5.

Some clips looking this way for some seconds:

Does anybody fighting with the same problem?

Before the actual update it had worked in previous versions.

So: Frist removing support and after the users had to wait,  Adobe will add the support for GH5 10-bit files again ?!

    very bad

It isn't "just" Adobe. On another very pro-level forum, I've just seen discussions that show the 10-bit 4:2:2 files even in 1080p have bugs in the way the GH5 records them to card, and therefore produce the same results in PrPro, Avid, Resolve, Vegas, and several other NLE and/or grading apps.

A number of users have posted bugs with Panny over this ... but they can be harder to convince that something needs fixing than Adobe.

And there's also discussions ongoing on some other oddities in the 4k and similar settings at any bit-depth.

You could imagine a number of very disappointed GH5 users there ...

I generally recommend avoiding QuickTime whenever possible.

Thankfully with the GH4 and 5, it's possible.

Just so you know, I'm jealous of the troubles you're having!

I wonder though if for now, something that might work would be using AME for transcoding that long-GOP into intraframe, perhaps the DNxHR codec. Long-GOP is hard enough on the CPU/RAM and cores/threads in FHD ... 4k just blows so much work on the CPU.

That's my only reservation looking over the GH5 info as it's come out, that it would stay long-GOP for 4k output.

    Hi Neil,

Transcoding to DNxHR is definitely going to be part of the workflow.

    Thanks,
