Pen tool not working for me

All I'm trying to do is cut around an image in a clip so i can get a clip of just that image moving. i dont mind cutting around every individual frame but for some reason premiere pro hates me and i have no idea how. i looked up tons of videos where people just take the pen tool and just CLICK cut around it, but when i use the pen tool and click on the picture nothing happens for some stupid reason sooo

    In CS6 you cannot use the Pentool for making masks on clips.

    That is a feature in later Premiere versions.

    Hi Xeferanus,

    I am sorry that you are facing trouble using pen tool. Please confirm the exact version of Premiere Pro and share the re-pro steps.

    Is this issue specific to a clip/project/sequence or happening with all?

    It's CS6. I assume you just select the pen tool and click on the preview thingy right? I've checked a couple of Adobe-made guides and they're really not specific at all.
