Question

performance since 2024 update

Since updating from 2022 to 2024 I've noticed Premiere simply runs so much poorer then previous versions.

When it works then yes, timline editing is as advertised "5x faster" but everything else is slowed down.

When opening a sequence that was clsoed previously in a prject it hangs and goes to not responding for up to a minute.

Lenghtning and shortening an item on the timeline causes lag and is un responsive.

For context my set up is more then able to handle it and my memory usage never goes over 70% so it can't be hardware related.  Why is it suddenly running worse then previous versions?

Just because your RAM never goes above 70% has nothing whatever to do with that this may be something to do with your system. i don't even understand the logic there ... so please, as always  when asking help for troublehooting ...

OS/CPU/RAM/GPU/driver ... the types of drives in use, external/internal, the media involved type, framesize/rate, and what created it, plus any effects or third party plugins in use.

With a bit of information then about the specific things that happen after specific steps, one can do decent troubleshooting.

Otherwise, it's throwing darts while blindfolded ... a waste of everyone's time.

Everyone's mileage always varies ...

Delete the Media Cache and Media Cache files:

If that doesn't work, try resetting the preferences:

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:
Reset a workspace
Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.
1. Do one of the following:
• Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
• Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.
from here:

If that doesn't work, try Preferences > Audio Hardware and set Input to None.

If that doesn’t work, try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site. If NVIDIA, do a clean installation of the latest Studio Driver (NOT the Game Driver).

If that doesn't work, try creating a new project and import the old one into it.
