Permanently deleting unused/unwanted portions of video clips

Hi,

I recently began recording video with my GoPro 10, and a lot of the clips contain footage I don't need or want. Yes, I can trim the video and import only that portion into the timeline, but the unused portion remains and occupies precious disc space.

Is there a way I can trim the clip and permanently delete the unwanted part from the original file? Perhaps by writing over it, or saving it with a new file name?

I would like to get rid of the excess footage. There is too much of it.

Thanks.

Mark

2nd vote for Shutter Encoder for this task.

Use the 'Cut without re-encoding' preset - It will create a new file but it will be very quick because it's not encoding: its basically doing a file copy.

You can then delete your longer original afterwards - Just be sure to check your new file before deleting the original!!!

The only way to do that in Premiere Pro would be to cut the clip and then export it.

Then import that exported clip into Premiere Pro.

There may be some quality loss depending upon the original clip resolution and codec and the chosen export settings.

Another way to do it is to use a third party app like Shutter Encoder:

Thanks Mike. And yes, I'll check the new file before trashing the original.
