Question

Pitch Shifting without losing quality

I have been speeding up talking head clips to about 125%, and then applying the pitch shifter to make the voice sound natural. However I notice slight artifacts after adjusting pitch, that gives the voice a slight AI sounding feel. Is there anyway to avoid this or fix this? Is there a paid third party pitch shifter that would perform better than the default pitch shifter?

For best results, send your audio to Adobe Audition and adjust the speed and pitch using Effects > Time and Pitch > Stretch and Pitch (Process). This method offers higher-quality processing and greater precision.

If you prefer to stay within Premiere Pro, apply the Pitch Shifter effect to correct pitch shifts caused by speed changes.

Below are recommended settings for various playback speeds:

Speed (%) Semitones Cents
50 +12 0
55 +10 +35
60 +8 +84
65 +7 +46
70 +6 +17
75 +4 0
80 +3 –16
85 +2 –31
90 +2 –45
95 +1 –83
105 –1 +70
110 –2 +49
115 –3 +34
120 –3 +86
125 –4 0
130 –4 –78
135 –5 –57
140 –6 –4
145 –6 –69
150 –7 –2

The formula used to calculate these values is:
Pitch Shift (in semitones) = –12 × log₂(Speed % / 100)

These settings help preserve natural pitch and tone when adjusting clip speed in Premiere Pro.

You can right-click the clip and select 'Edit Clip in Adobe Audition'

Also, @PaulMurphy could offer some suggestions.

Adobe Audition is a better way to go.
