Playback freezes when tabbing out of premiere

When I tab out of premiere the video playback freezes for about 10 seconds. No matter the size of the clip and no matter the amount of time that I tabbed out. Everything else works perfectly fine like selecting clips, adding effects, switching tools, but I just can't play the clip. The playback freeze also does not go away unless I hit play and wait for it.

 

Things of note:

PC Specs: RTX 4090, i9 13900K, 32 GB Ram (26 set for adobe), 2 TB system drive SSD that I edit from and a 4TB HDD that I also tried editing from

My laptop with an RTX 3070, i7, and 16 GB Ram runs premiere perfectly fine and I also edit off of the system drive.

I have had suggestions to not work off of the system drive but changing it does not seem to fix the problem (and my laptop works with the system drive too)

I have reset preferences but that did not do anything, cleared media caches, updated the nvidia studio driver, reinstalled premiere.

Only thing that I can think of is that I have one of my monitors plugged into my iGPU because I can't get the GPU HDMI ports to work.

    Hi Xavier Clay!

    Sorry about the issue. Which version of Premiere Pro do you have? What type of media file are you using for editing (codec/ format, frame rate, frame size)? Are you working on dual monitor? If so, what happens on a single screen?

    Premiere Pro 24.0

    h264/mp4, 60 fps, 1920x1080.

    I unplugged my 2nd monitor, and it is still freezing. It stopped freezing for about 2 minutes, but then it just returned to freezing every time I tab out.

    I don't see why the codec, fps, or frame size would matter since my way less powerful laptop has not once had this problem. I also use a second monitor on my laptop as well.
