Question

Playback issues with GPU acceleration enabled

Hi,

I'm experiencing choppy playback of H264 1080 media when "GPU acceleration" is enabled under the 'video rendering and playback' tab of project settings.

I'm working with Premiere Pro CC 2019 vers. 13.0.2

When 'software only' is enabled however, playback is fine.

Why is this? Here are my basic workstation specs:

CPU: Intel i9-9820x

RAM: 64GB

GPU: Quadro M4000, driver vers. 418.81

The OS and the media are on two separate M.2 SSDs, and the cache files on a third SSD.

Is there an issue currently with GPU acceleration causing choppy playback?

I've read that GPU acceleration is intended to improve performance of non-playback tasks, but it should still allow for smooth playback.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!

Do not count on Windows to be fully up to date when it comes to device drivers

Go to the vendor site to be sure you have an updated driver for your graphic adapter

•nVidia Driver Downloads http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

There are also intermittent reports that the newest driver is not always the best driver due to driver bugs or compatibility issues, so you MAY need to try an earlier driver version

Hi John,

Thanks so much for responding.

I did update the driver for my GPU (Quadro M4000), to driver vers. 418.81 which is the latest driver version.

I haven't heard of any issues from Adobe regarding this driver.

I forgot to mention that I'm also running Windows 10 Pro for workstations. And I just did a clean install a few days ago.

Anyway, the problem persists. Still having choppy playback with GPU acceration enabled.

Roll back a driver. See how that goes.
