Playback lags and jumps to the start of the video whenever I pause.

This is driving me insane my friends.

I have a 3 minute video I'd like to edit. It's in 4K. The playback is relatively smooth all up until I pause, then once I resume, the playback resets to the beginning. For example, I pause on second 10 and once I resume, second 11 will be the showing second 1. 

I've tried to set up proxies but this has been incredibly tedious as I have had troubles changing the output location of the media file to my secondary drive (first drive doesn't have enough space).
