Playback lags over a masked video from the same video

Hello, so every time I mask a video and put it over another layer (from the same video (it works fine on other videos)) the video starts lagging until the top layer is finished, I have tried the same thing on a different PC but it still happen. There is no red line to render so I suppose it's not a rendering thing. I have also tried to reduce the quality of the playback to minimum and it didn't help. does anyone have a sulotion?

This sounds like a situation that I am experiencing. Are you using the latest version of premiere 23.4? Can you try rolling your premiere version to 23.2 and see if it works better? I also have many layers of the same clip doing some effects and started seeing performance issues after I updated. Rilling back to 23.2 fixed it

Haha never mind this would have predated version 23. Maybe worth a try anyway ;D

Are you using a format that performs well for video editing?

If you are playing two videos simultaneously, then you have twice the processing power required to decode both of those video streams. You may be just barely able to play the single stream, but then when you are trying to play two at once it's too much. That's what sounds like what is happening.

The media you work with has a massive impact on performance. Video codecs like H264 and H265 require a lot of processing to decode (play) compared to professional post production codecs like ProRes or DNxHD/HR. When you are starting to use effects or have multiple video streams playing simultaneously you'll really start to notice the inefficiency of the media that you're using.

Again as I have said that was not the problem as I have added another video on a second layer and masked it, it worked very well but the problem is cause by the same video, also I have tried the same thing on a different Computer and the computer had 3070ti gpu and rayzen7 3800x and 32 gb rams so that thing no matter how heavy it is should cause that problem from as far as I know. I have also added no effects but the masking so I'm not sure if that's a effects problem as I have masked a lot of other videos with no problem caused.

yes i have same problem, only mask on same video on top layer, but when masking different video on top layer, the playback is ok.
