playback problem

Question

the playback does not work even on pressing the space bar
the button changes its shape
but playback doesnot occur
the GPU acceleartion in the project settings is on mercury GPU accleration
i have deleted the CACHE from EDIT->Media cache
the RAM is enough for the playback
i rendered the IN and OUT of the timeline to be played back from SEQUENCE ->render IN to OUT
what else could be the reason
please anyone help
