Playback severely lagging with MXF files

I’m using MXF files in my edit and they take 45 seconds to even show what frame is selected in the timeline, playback is impossible, even at 1/8 resolution. I’m making proxies now, but there MUST be a way to work with these files at least a little better.

Sounds incredibly frustrating. Sorry to hear. What camera / codec are these MXF files from? Can you give us more info about your computer setup, as well? With a bit more information, I hope we can help you better.

imac Pro 2017, Radeon Pro Vega 64 16GB, 64GB memory, sunning sequoia 15.7.3

Premiere 26.2.0

Shot on Canon C50, and C500 and the clips are XF-HEVC S YCC 422 10 bit, 3840x2160 long GOP. Some at 23.976 fps and some at 59.94fps
