Playback stalls on scrolling titles

I put together a weekly TV show which ends with vertically scrolling credits. These are track matted over an endcap with an animated show logo at the top, masked so that the titles fade as they scroll up "under" the logo.

Almost, but not quite, as soon as I add the credit title, video playback freezes at the start of the scrolling credit sequence. The video freezes, although the playhead moves on normally and the closing music continues to play.

The above GIF shows what happens when the playback head hits the end credit title and mask. The logo animation does not complete (it should continue zooming until it is enclosed by the rectangle) and the credits do not display.

When the playhead reaches the end of the scrolling titles sequence, normal video playback resumes (production company and distrib logos etc).

I usually get the chance to play it back correctly once, but thereafter the freeze occurs. If I try to play from within the scrolling credit sequence, nothing happens (no audio, playhead does not move).

Saving the project sometimes gives me the chance to view the end sequence correctly. Closing the project and opening it again ALWAYS lets me display the end sequence correctly - once.

I will sometimes get one additional successful playback if I have yet to install the track matte mask, but it freezes without the mask as well.

The sequence always exports correctly. It does not seem possible to render the end sequence to give it a better chance of displaying.

While not the latest Mac Pro, this machine is not particularly lacking in power and doesn't generally hiccup at all. I have tried rebuilding the end sequence from scratch to no avail. It seems to be the unique combination of elements and processes - maybe "extended track-matted scrolling credits over video" is what does it? This has been going on for years and I've never got around to reporting it.

MacPro mid 2012, 28GB RAM, OS 10.12.5 Graphics ATI HD5870 1024MB

Any suggestions gratefully received.

It does not seem possible to render the end sequence to give it a better chance of displaying.

That is precisely the solution here.

OK, then that's the way to do it. You would think that selecting the elements and doing "render selection" would do this, but it doesn't, which is why I was at a bit of a loss; you have to set in and out points and render in to out.

Nice to know that this is actually not an issue. Thanks for clearing that up. So basically my machine doesn't have the horsepower required to render this on the fly, then?

It appears not.
