Playhead bounces back prematurely

I've tried searching for answers and have come close but I can't find a fix to this precise issue. New user and I might have changed a Preference by accident. After I place the playhead on the edit timeline and press space to engage 'playback', it bounces back to where I started after about a minute, by itself. It won't play back continuously through the entire timeline and always stops and returns to where I started. I know it's supposed to do this if you stop playback, but it's just returning to the start (where I hit the space at) on its own.

Thanks for the quick reply - much appreciated. I think it had something to do with the postroll settings, and 'play around ' setting and a misplaced/misassigned keyboard shortcut. I reset my keyboard back to the Default so all my keyboard shortcuts were set back, and changed my preroll and postroll both to 0. Seems to have worked. Still getting used to things and I appreciate your help. DC

You probably have in and out points, which is why it loops only part of the timeline.

Thanks much! I'll check out your tutorial. In my case, I think it happened to be post setting and some poorly assigned keyboard shortcuts. I think I've backed my way back to the behavior I was looking for. Thanks!

Hi davemsn,

I read about your issue and think I know what may be the trouble.

Go to Edit (Windows) / Premiere Pro (Mac) > Preferences > Timeline and look for the option called: "At playback end, return to beginning when restarting playback"

If this is checked, Premiere Pro will stop playback at the end of the timeline segment, then jump back to where playback started and may auto-restart or just move the playhead there.

To fix this behavior: Uncheck "At playback end, return to beginning when restarting playback" Also, in the same section, consider unchecking "Play after rendering previews" if playback starts automatically after renders.

After adjusting these preferences, click OK and restart Premiere Pro.
