Question

Playing back media on my iMac Pro is VERY slow

I have a iMac Pro 3.2 GHz, 64GB ram, Raedon Pro Vega 56 8 GB, and I am working with 7200 RPM Thunderbolt 2 drive, and it is just stuttering and lagging playing back my 4k and 1080 video. I'm currently working with a 1080 sequence that include 4k footage shot with a Sony A73. As soon as I add any keyframing for motion everything pretty much just stops. I am still on CC2018.

1. Is there an ideal sequence setting that I should work with that may playback footage more smoothly? Should I be just dragging in a clip into my sequence and set it up that way rather than choosing a sequence preset?

2. I need to add warp stabilizer to some clips, and do more keyframing though I am afraid to because it makes scrolling through the timeline almost impossible. Should I do this all at the end? Can I apply the effects and turn them off with the FX button so it doesn't apply them or will that still slow things down? Any other tips?

Thanks.

I don't know enough to help you.

h264 is kinda tough to work with (very demanding on computer). I did some 4k stuff (like yours) recently but use a pc and used resolve, and had to optimize the footage (resolve equiv to proxy ). It was choking on the mp4 stuff when doing simple stuff. Can you make your 4k stuff prores proxy ?

what's your video chip set to render ?  you can't use cuda… don't know what options you have ….
