PNG Sequence Overlay Not Behaving As Exected

I have a background video to which I am overlaying a PNG sequence that contains an alpha channel.  The PNG by itself (cup_splash_0124.png) looks like it should.  The subtle shadows are nice and dark like I want.  But when placed on top of the background video (composite from premiere pro.png) in Premiere Pro the cookie, cup & saucer and shadows are much brighter which kills the illusion.  I've tried a number of things but can not seem to figure out why the shadows appear white and not a nice dark color as seen in the original PNG image.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
