Poor playback in source window.

Using 12.1.2 build 69 on a 3.4GHz i7 iMac with 32GB of ram, all source footage on a Thunderbolt connected G drive, playback in source window is kind of sketchy. Sometimes it's ok, sometimes it's delayed and pausey. And no, the drives are not set to sleep.

I have all high bit rate 4K H.264 on the timeline (from GH5S).

Is there anything I might be overlooking with respect to settings? Thanks for any help.

    I recommend using Cineform proxies with all H.264 media.

    What resolution is the Source Monitor set to display?

    Do you have High Quality Playback unchecked?

    Playback is sketchy even at 1/8 res.

    I don't see a "High Quality Playback" setting in the preferences.
