Question

Postion & Scale lag

Hi all, big bugger here. I'm running mac OS

Catalina 10.15.7

3.2 GHz quad i5

32 GB ram

1600 MHz DDR3

Running off external SSD

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX 1 GB

on premiere 2021. I've encountered a bug (which only seemed to occur recently) where the position and scaling almost never loads or takes seconds to load it's value. It's driving me nuts

I've tried:

Changing playback renderer

Changing pointer speed

attempting (but failing) changing mouse polling rate (I believe this to be the culprit)

and everything under the sun that will affect performance in premiere.

I swear, is it just me or is premiere one of the buggiest programs to use? I seem to constantly encounter massively frustrating bugs that deter my workflow/performance, at least more so than any other editing programs i've tried (i'm an audio guy)

PLS HELP 😞

Hi @Indoléstic,

I read about your issue. You're having trouble with performance and using intrinsic video effects. It looks as though you are not meeting system requirements with the GPU that is installed. NVIDIA GPUs have not been supported for quite some time and yours has too little VRAM on top of that. The other thing I noted is that you said you are running the app from an external drive. You should be running it from the boot drive, not an external one. Using H.264 or HEVC video without proxies or by transcoding the footage can further exacerbate your performance issue.

Is this your computer? If so, the computer is around twelve years old. It sounds like you may need a newer computer. On average, pro video editors get new systems around every five years at a minimum

Congratulate yourself for using this computer for so long, but every machine should be retired at some point after so many years. Treat yourself to a new or "newer" used computer to return to a more stable video editing experience with Premiere Pro.

Sorry for the issue. I hope the info helps.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi mate, thanks for all the details. So basically I'm SOL then? :')

I have been considering opting over to a "newer" system, but I don't want to do that just to find out i'll have some problems elsewhere, which is almost inevitable with premiere pro.

I've worked off a newer mac-mini with the M1 chip, and in some aspects it is faster and smoother, however being that the specs are limited once you start to actually do heavy processing the project goes to ****. I've been considering building a PC for a while. Maybe now is as good a time as ever to get that going.

Appreciate the details again Kevin

Thanks

Hi @Indoléstic,

Sure. You can try creating proxies or transcoding to ProRes LT outright. Project Settings > General should be set to Mercury Playback Engine Software Only. Stay away from 4K. See if you can't get by doing that.

Thanks,
Kevin

Did you try this?

Check the Audio Hardware Preferences. Default Audio Input should be set to No Input.

Try the Transform effect instead.

Okay, but say for example i'm editing the stroke on a text outline. What about in that scenario?
