PP'22 keeps creating and saving blank document files in my project folder

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone else has this problem and how they've fixed it... PP keeps creating literal blank text documents in my project folder and I can't figure out why or what triggers it. See attached image. All of those long titles are literally blank text files that PP creates. When I delete them, nothing happens to the timeline so I truly have no idea what is going on.

Any idea how to fix this or what this is? SOS it's driving me NUTS!!! Thanks all!

Hi xiabia,

Sorry about this issue. To my eyes, these look like media cache files, which Premiere Pro constantly generates when you import media into a project. You can set the media cache location in Preferences > Media Cache.

As a Premiere Pro editor, it is essential to keep track of a few things regarding media cache. The first is to make sure where you are saving the media cache. Another is the size of the media cache, for example, how much hard drive space the cache is taking. You can delete the media cache periodically, as it can grow quite large. Older media cache files can also disrupt smoother playback, so that's another reason to track these files and delete them regularly, especially after updating Premiere Pro. It does not harm anything to delete the files, as they will rebuild when restarting Premiere Pro and then reopening your project.

I hope that these tidbits of info help you wrangle these files.

To be free of this particular issue, my advice is to delete these files. After, set a better location for their storage in preferences, ideally on a fast drive that is separate from your boot drive. Set a reminder on your calendar to track and delete these files periodically. Doing so will keep your editing system running well by maintaining these files, I believe.

Sincerely,

Kevin
