I had the same issue on 24.1! Also using a 16" M1 Max (the top specs across the board) I thought I was going crazy. Pretty much once every 30 mins to an hour I would get a beach ball and then any input would take about 10 to 20 seconds to register. The only fix was to quit premiere and then I would have another half hour before it would happen again. I tried quite a few things to fix it and finally decided to roll back to 24.0 and now it's running perfectly again. Just saying this in case anyone else sees this thread and is having a hard time with 24.1 to try reverting back to 24.0 as that worked perfectly for me.

Hi @Jake221470256nt5,

Have you tried deleting media cache as I recommended to @richyratton. That's the firs thing I'd try. Let us know what happens.

Thanks,
Kevin

I try to delete the media cache as a last resort. The cache is there for a reason as it makes using the software way faster so deleting would probably cost me hours of work as I wait for the cache to rebuild as I have very very long media files (10-hour 4k multicamera timelines in projects in some cases). I often need to jump around to these all the time so deleting the cache isn't the best option any time I run into any issue (especially seeing as it's recommended almost nonstop no matter what the problem is in these forums)

Seeing as the rollback to the previous version worked I'm not touching anything for now. Once a new update comes out I'll try my luck skipping the problematic version and hope the next version is smoother. If it's bad I'll give the cache a shot and report back then.

Thanks, Kevin

Hi @richyratton,

I heard about your performance issue. Have you tried deleting media cache and resetting preferences? Press Shift at launch and do these things via the Reset Options dialog box. Give the machine a reboot, and launch Premiere Pro. Give it a few minutes to rebuild new cache files. Launch the sequence and check the performance. Any good now? Let us know I hope that helped you. If not, return for more assistance. Sorry for the frustrating issue.

Take Care,

Kevin
