Question

Prem got rid of all my preferences, and wiped all of my projects.

Seemingly overnight, all of my preferences, layout, key binds, everything, were wiped into nothing. Along with that, my projects have been turned into blank slates with no way of getting to the auto saves.

I have absolutely no clue how this happened, my best guess it that Prem created a profile for itself that thrashed all of my previous settings. Within my Prem folder is a so-called “Profile” folder that hadn't been there before. I did nothing to actuate this to my knowledge.

Is there anything I can do to get my settings and projects back?

That 'Profile' folder is normal it shows up here:

%UserName%\Documents\Adobe\Premiere Pro\15.0

It doesn't affect the files you can't find. It holds keyboard shortcuts, workspaces, etc...

I used that path for projects for a while and didn't notice a folder of the sort, so I still assume there was some sort of anomaly, but thank you for clearing that up. I assumed I wasn't exactly correct there.

The list of project you see when you launch Premiere Pro will be blank if the Preferences are resetted/deleted. The list is just a reference to your actual physical project files, and they are never deleted when the Preferences are resetted/deleted. So there is a good chance that all project files are still on your hard drive.

Open any file explorer and do a search for *.prproj and they will show up.

Sorry for not explaining this more clearly. The files themselves are corrupted, if I do open them through the physical form, they still show nothing.

sometimes creating a new projecting and importing the old project will work.   Do some searching here.  There was someone who was able to fix corrupt projects and was helping people with the issue.  Can't remember his user name.  If you can't find it, post back and I'll do some searching when I have a few minutes in a day or 2.  Off to a long days shooting shortly...

Premiere stores preferences and workspaces and such in a couple different places ... username/appdata/roaming/adobe is one folder I think, and the username/documents/adobe is another.

Check there, it will have them by numbererd version, as in 14.0, 15.0.

I use the latter path, there are preference and workspaces folders, but they are completely empty.

Do you have backups?

They seem to have disappeared as well.

Where were your backups located?

I would run a malware scan.
