Premeire Pro CS3 program screen black, source fine

I am bleeding from my brain over this. I used Premiere in TV stations, a decade ago. I took high quality avi videos. They show up fine in the source screen, and at first the program - but when I touched it in the timeline, program screen went blank. Googled, read threads, but I can see no logic whatsoever. There is no option to change project settings for this, as I saw in later version videos. Never even remotely had this problem in the past. I bought this to make music videos. Really stressing out over something that should automatically work. Help!

    Wow, I LOVE the way you CAPITALIZE WORDS for NO GOOD REASON! It must make YOU feel IMPORTANT. Fact is, when a VIDEO program doesn't work with VIDEO, it's CRAP. I just released the VIDEO with POWER DIRECTOR, and it took less than a half hour to make, ON MY PHONE. Did I mention it was FREE? Wrap that, buddy.
