Premier Pro awful playback and generally slow...

Hello everyone, 

I hope you´re all well. I ghave started using premier pro quite some time ago, but it is only now that i am starting to find issues. I had a Razer Blaze 15 advanced, and premier pro was unforgivable laggy, event after upgrading to 64gb of ram. Now i am using a macbook air, and premier pro cant event handle 10gb of footage without lagging. Honestly this app infuriated me, i wish i could go back and learn on a much more reliable application, that wouldnt make me miss project deadlines and just makes the content creation game so hard. Ive taken the obvious steps such as allow software encoding instead of hardware, lowered playback resolution, and cleared media cache but nothing changes....
