Premier Pro keeps crashing while editing with Canon C-LOG 2 and/or 3

I have had issues with PP continuously crashing and have been working with your agents trying to fix without success (see case # ADB-45725768-G8T1).

I may have figured out the potential cause of my crashing issues. I hope you can help confirm this may be the cause and a fix (or at minimum a workaround) for it.

Since I spoke with your last agent, I still had the issue on that project, but I had to hit a deadline so I suffered though and got through it. I am still not finished with this particular project, just waiting on feedback.

In the meantime, I have worked on a couple other projects without any issues (so far). The one key difference between the projects is that the ones that kept crashing use Canon c-log 2 & 3..the ones that don’t use .mp4. Early in my troubleshooting, I did suspect it may be the type of footage that was causing the issue, so I created proxies(.mp4), but that did not resolve the crashing problem so I moved on.

From your immense resourceful experience, do you see a correlation here and what may be the fix for this? I will be revisiting this project in the near future, so I hope you have a resolve for me.

With MP4 files, your camera is likely recording in H.264 or H.265. Neither codec is well suited to editing, regardless of the Log setting. The less powerful your machine, the harder these codecs are to work with.

If you need to record in these formats, create proxies using a codec like ProRes, CineForm, or DNxHD for a much smoother editing experience.
