Premier Pro Playhead/CTI jumps to beginning of timeline when pressing play

The issue:

Premier Pro Playhead/CTI jumps to beginning of timeline when pressing play - this happens about every 4th or 5th time when pressing play . The CTI jumps back to the beginning of the timeline and I then have to go scrolling through the timeline to find the place I was previously at - a real slowdown to the work day and very frustrating.

This began happening half way through the day on a project - no settings had been changed and it hadn't been an issue on this project in the first half of the day.

I have searched several forums but have not found any satisfactory answers.

I have re-set preferences (holding option at startup of PR)

I have shut down  the program and the machine and restarted several times.

This does not appear to be a preference issue - Preferences>Timeline>'At playback end, return to the beginning when restarting playback'  is not checked.

Is anyone having a similar problem? Does anyone have a solution?

    UPDATE #2:

    I had an extension panel open - I closed the panel the problem is no longer persisting.

    UPDATE:

    This morning I uninstalled and re-installed PR but the problem is still occurring.

    SYSTEM:

    Mac Pro

    3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5

    32 GB 1866 MHz DDR3

    AMD FirePro D300 2048 MB

    I had the same problem. Closing an extension panel (Transcriptive from Digital Anarchy) fixed the problem!
