Premiere becomes unusable with more than 2 items in project bin

Any new project file I make becomes unusable once I add 2 items to it. With one item everything works fine but adding a second lags premiere like crazy and makes the timeline red. Sometimes it will crash after sitting unusable for a while. I have a project file I made a few weeks ago with 70+ items and I can still add as much as I want to it and it works like normal. I made a copy of this project because it seems to be the only one that doesn't become unusable but the duplicate file also breaks once I add another item. Only the original file works like normal. My system performance stays normal when premiere becomes unusable.

    I fixed the issue by resetting my workspace layout. An absolutely absurd thing that seems highly unrelated to fix my issue but it did

        I have the same exact issue. Looking for alternative programs at this point. Nothing has worked and old projects work fine but as you said new clips cannot be added. Its absurd.
