Premiere CC 2017 suddenly won't import MTS files NO SUGGESTED SOLUTIONS WORK

I'm desperate for help here, I'm working on a Mac Book Pro. I was having no problems importing MTS files before today, but was unable to get any audio. So I searched the forums for a solution and tinkered around with renaming my Adobe folders and I think that screwed something up. Now I can't import any MTS files at all, it says the MTS files have an unsupported compression type. I repeat, NO SUGGESTED SOLUTIONS HAVE WORKED. I've tried moving the AVCHD folder onto my hard drive/desktop; I've tried renaming the Media Cache files, nothing has worked. It seems like the more I try the worse it gets and the less my MacBook wants to even communicate with me. I've been combing through the forums for hours trying to fix it. Please help. I should mention also that I've only been using a Mac for about two weeks now and a lot of the forums' language is foreign to me. If someone could provide me with a step-by-step solution that would be great. My job literally hinges on this. Thanks.

My first thought is to update to the current version of the software.

Check your audio hardware preferences: see if its set up correctly.
