Premiere crashes with Blackmagic eGPU

Hey guys,

I just got the new Blackmagic eGPU for my Macbook Pro, but I can't use it with Premiere Pro CC 2018 (latest version). Every time I am opening a project, Premiere immediately crashes.

Any ideas or experiences?

Crashes tend to happen on a Mac if you are running a monitor out of the eGPU. Does not matter if it be HDMI or thunderbolt 3. If you directly connect your external monitors, seems to run stable.

I'm not seeing much in performance upgrade on the 2018 MacBook Pro. Only shaves off around 4-5 seconds of render time. Will Adobe ever support this thing?

Thanks guys! It works after changing the renderer to metal! Not very happy with the performance yet, but I hope there will be updates soon...

I tried changing renderer to Metal, but performance was terrible.  In the end I've found that you can use OpenCL renderer with a MacBook Pro *provided that* you have the MacBook Pro lid closed and the Ultrafine display connected to the eGPU.

Same problem here! But if I have nothing plugged in in my eGPU (so no usb audio interface and HDMI external monitor in this case) it works, if I plug one other device in it crashes instantly... So I cannot use any of the ports on the Blackmagic eGPU.

It's more like you are having troubles with eGPU software, are you running HIgh Sierra and softwares with the latest updates ?

Not with me, I'm running High Sierra (10.13.6) and Premiere Pro CC 2018 (12.1.2)
