Premiere freezes when media intelligence analysis completes

When I create a project, it works fine and runs smoothly. However, I noticed that when the media intelligence analysis completes its analysis, it suddenly freezes and lags the entire application to the point of being unusable. I have disabled it, and everything seems to be working. It appears to be affecting not only the latest update but also the previous 25.0 updates.

My PC System:

Windows 11

CPU: Intel 12th gen I9-12900k

GPU: Asus 4070 Super

Ram: 32 GB DDR5

storage: 2 TB NVMe for Premiere Pro and 2 TB SSD for video storage.

Update: it seems that media intelligence is not a problem. I don't know why, but the problems i had before are not appearing when attempting to recreate the same thing. it also is not lagging anymore. I will continue to check for a bit but it seems the problem has gone away.

This is the current state of a video, as you can see, it's only one video, and I've turned off media intelligence. So far, with it off it works smoothly and no lag with playback. However, with media intelligence on once it completes, it lags a ton, and the playback is completely frozen.

Idk if it might be a hard drive issue catching up, but it's frustrating.

This is with the latest update, and I've tried to downgrade to 25.2 is the lowest I've gone any lower.

Update: After a few minutes, it seems to be ok, but it's concerning that it takes a while to stop the lag.

The media cache is stored on an NVMe drive, which is also my OS Drive, and the videos are stored on a hard drive with ample space. As with other solutions, before turning off the media analysis. I tried a fresh install of both the application and clearing the media cache. I've also reinstalled GPU drivers and checked for other system updates. From an initial look, it seems to happen when I try to make any new project, and not the completed project, for the most part.

Hi @Phoenix291719169qcw,

Welcome to the Premiere Pro forums and thank you for submitting a bug report. Echoing @Alexander_DVA, is this happening with all your projects or has it been project specific? What kind of media are you working with?

When the application started to lag, did you try restarting the application or re-opening the project and did the issues persist?

Under Preferences > Media Analysis & Transcription, where is the cache analysis being stored? If in the Media Cache, where is your Media Cache being stored?

Sorry for the frustration,
Dani

Thank you for your report!

Media intelligence was added on 25.2.0 - so it would be interesting to know why you would see it affect older versions too if it is not available there? Do you mean the auto transcription feature? That is available longer and only its settings moved under the media intelligence umbrella.

Would it be possible to capture a screenshot of your progress panel while you experience these slow downs? Can you also provide some information about the size and media used in projects that experience these performance issues? (e.g. how many clips, what format/codec, what total runtime in minutes). This would help us in finding a possible root cause.

Best regards,
 Alexander
