Premiere hangs when writing metadata

I'm trying to metalog a coverage right now. I've got 627 4k video files, about 700 gigs worth of footage. I would love to be able to write metadata to all these files at once, but every time I select all of the source footage and try to write metadata to file, Premiere completely stalls out. I have been able to get smaller selections of clips to write, however.

I recognize that this is obviously a huge amount of data, but is there any way to bulk write metadata without the program hanging? It does not seem like it should be such a resource-intensive task, especially when my system is no slouch: 2019 iMac with 3.6 i9, 32GB of memory, an 8gb graphics card, and the footage is on the internal 2TB flash storage.

I have seen some users resort to Bridge for their major metadata endeavors. You might try that.
