Question

Premiere keeps freezing after any manipulation of file.

It started slowly by freezing every 30 min or so. then got progressively worse as I added more elements to my file.

my eqpmt:

Win10

64gb memory

4tb storage ssd drives

intel i9-7940x 3.10 ghz.

nvidia gtx1080ti.

this system was well over 5000.00 for serious film editing and processing.

I have read all the other similar complaints in forum and nothing is making it any better.

All my files are on a SSD internal. NOT on cloud.

I import and edit. when I mark in and out and then render. my system freezes and only thing to do is actual power button off and then on again. then start all over.

I have tried removing ALL startup programs and loading bare essentials.

Please help.

I'm also having this problem. If I take a 5 minute break from editing whatever I'm working on PP freezes up (program not responding), won't play back any preview video at all and the only way to solve it is to force close the program and launch it again.

I also have an issue where it changes my audio I/O buffer size and sample rate on its own even when I'm editing and that also stops video preview playback, It's completely unusable! Going to try reverting back to an older PP version now.

Same problem yesterday after days of no problems. I switched to single

screen and adjusted my video card accordingly. No problems. So far.

It's truly become an unsatisfying experience using Premiere. One never

knows what will happen next... and that we have to perform so many

functions just to open a large project, clearing cache for example,

doesn't feel like we're getting value for our hefty subscription.

    Anyway... Back to it.

I have the same problem and have been struggling with it for weeks. I've rolled back graphics drivers, rolled back and forward Premier installs, cleaned out media cache at every re-install. Now I can barely get anything done without Premier freezing entirely with (Not responding) above the menu bar. Even Task Manager fails to close Premiere. I have to reboot. It is agonising.

Seems to lock up everytime I work on titles within Essential Graphics. I'm presently on the current build of Premiere which had been relatively stable on 24 Dec and appallingly unstable on 26 Dec!

Any sign of a bug-free update on the near horizon?

If all your files are on the same SSD as windows? then that's where your problem is. Especially if you have an anti-virus running.
Even if you do not have an anti virus running, Windows defender might be running in the background.

Can you give me details on how your storage is setup?

Thank you for responding. I uninstalled all malware and anti-virus software. I turned off defender and moved all files to my D drive which is separate from windows installation.

Software ran for about 10 minutes, left it alone for 30min and when I came back it froze.

Is there any way possible to remote in and check my system parameters on your end. I will be free all this week. If not please give me another suggestion, nothing seems to be working.

If you prefer to speak to me in person, please feel free to contact me at your convenience. I am located in New York.

    Thank you

Can you expound a bit on the 'freezing'?  Is it just PP, or the whole system?  Does PP start responding after a time?  Do you need to restart PP, or the whole system?

So it works fine up until you 'render' ... is that doing an export, or rendering a section of a sequence?

Have you tried the Adobe CC Cleaner Tool ... ? To completely remove PrPro and all traces prior to rebooting and reinstalling.

Just uninstalling these Adobe apps leaves files "laying around" various places that re-installing will use if they're still there. The Cleaner Tool gets those other files, that might be the cause of something like this.

    Adobe CC Cleaner Tool: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

The instructions say to uninstall first, then run the Cleaner ... from previous experience, that works some times, not others. If instead you use the Cleaner Tool to do both the uninstall & cleanup, it always gets everything. So ... just use it to uninstall and remove traces.

That should get you back to a fully clean install of PrPro, and then let's see if the troubles continue.
