Premiere Preview Keeps Freezing Whenever I Edit Anything

Hey all, recently updated to the most recent version of premiere (24.1) and had a reoccuring issue of my preview screen freezing, causing me not able to play the footage nor see what I'm doing. My drivers are up to date, I am on an Omen 16 laptop with 16gb ram and a 5700x GPU with an i7 9th gen, so the hardware isn't an issue. This has been happening with any kind of footage I've been editing, whether it is irl stuff or video games. 

Sidenote, what's the deal with VR effects still saying GPU acceleration isn't on despite it being on?
