Question

Premiere preview window and audio stops working after switching to another programme/desktop

Hopefully there's an easy fix or similar experience out there to this one – with Premiere 2024, every time I click onto the desktop or into another programme, regardless of whether it's an Adobe app or other, when I go back into Premiere the preview window doesn't update, nor does the audio track(s) produce any sound either – even though they were working perfectly fine, i.e. scrubbing along the timeline made the video preview move at the same time, and the audio scrubbed back and forth too. The only fix is to quit and reopen Premiere so if there is a fix for this, besides updates to 2025, (the Mac is running Sonoma 14.7.1) it'd be much appreciated!

Hello there! This might be a long fetched answer, but have you tried clearing the cache to free up space and potentially improve performance.

Edit > Preferences > Media Cache and click the "Delete" button, then choose to delete unused media cache data or all media files from the system.

In case it's a space issue, this might do something.

Yes I did try that, it's one of my go to things to do when Premiere (and After Effects for that matter) plays up, but it didn't improve things

What might have solved it is turning off the GPU usage in preferences.......
