Premiere Pro 2019 - titles look unrendered after export

I have just encountered an issue with premiere Pro 2019, which I installed several days ago. I added some titles to corporate video i was working on. The titles were Helvetica neue Light - font size 57. When I export the video, these titles come out looking crunchy round the edges - as if they are unrendered. This happens whether i export via media Encoder, or directly out of premiere pro. I have tried exporting as an H.264 and also as Apple ProRes 422 - same issue. The weird thing is that there are a couple of lower thirds titles and a main title as well that look fine. They are also Helvetica Neue - the lower part of the lower third is Helvetica Neue Light.
