Premiere Pro 2020 Crashes when "Export Media" selected and CUDA

I'm running the latest Premire Pro 2020, v14.0.1 (build 71).  Whenever I go to File>Export Media then Premiere just freezes.  It doesn't display the dialog box or anything, just freezes and needs to be shut down in task manager.

I've found that in Project Settings, changing from CUDA to "Playback Engine Software Only" will fix the problem.  I'm using a Geforce GTX1660 card with the latest Nvidia Studio drivers, version 442.19.

Anyone else experienced this bug?  Is it Nvidia or Adobe?

Thanks,

   Stewart

I've done more experimentation and discovered it has to do with the output monitor settings.

I have a dual monitor setup and am using one monitor for the Premiere window and the other for full screen video output monitoring.

When I have Premiere on Monitor2 and output on Monitor1, it freezes when going to Export Media.  However, if I have Premiere in Monitor1 and output on Monitor2 then it works fine.  Also, if monitor output is disabled (unchecked all monitors from the Preferences>Playback menu) then it also works fine.

I guess an easy fix is to swap my monitor cables going to the card so they are in the correct for my preferred monitor layout.

I disabled my 2nd monitor when outputting and this worked.  Great suggestion!  Thanks!

I think your comment about the monitor selection is perhaps good.

Premiere seems to be more stable if the main UI window is on the monitor that is the 'home' monitor for the OS. Moving the program from that monitor is often problamatic. Why? Dunno. Just is.

There are some Resolve users that have had issues with Nvidia drivers since mid January, and had to roll back to early January or December release drivers to function without issues. So ... you might try rolling your Nvidia driver back.

Thank you, i'm now not sure if that is the problem, but good to know since I also use Resolve sometimes.

Hi Stewart,

Thanks for writing in. This looks weird that Premiere Pro freezes without any error while exporting.

  • Could you share your system details (OS, CPU, RAM)?
  • Does it happen with a specific project or it's random?
  • What type of media files are you working with (codec/format, frame rate, frame size)?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Kartika

To answer your questions:

Ryzen 2700X

Win10 Enterprise

64gb ram (fulley burnt in and tested with memtest86)

Nvidia GTX1660 with latest studio drivers

Happens with all projects and just using standard MP4 video shot on sony A7rii.

Please see my previous response explaining further details, it has to do with the output monitoring.

Thank you
