Premiere Pro 2022 crashes when opening Windows Explorer

Hi,

Premiere Pro 2021 and Media Encoder work perfectly on my windows 10 PC that meets the minimum requirements..

But I cannot use Premiere Pro 2022 and Media Encoder 2022, that freeze everytime they need to open Windows Explorer to select a file or a folder.

I cannot even create a new project: in the "Import" tab: if I want to choose another project path, Premiere freezes when windows explorer opens.

The same in the "Export" tab when I want to change the export file name.

I still can do my own projects with Premiere 2021 but cannot work on any team project created with Premiere 2022.

Any idea on how to fix this ?

Thanks.

Hey everyone,

I just found on this topic a solution and i tryed it and finaly everything sounds good. I just want to share it, just in case some would go on this topic : Adobe Community Topic - explorer.exe

So i I just uninstall IBM Aspera Connect,
Reboot my computer (PC),

After that just relaunch a Adobe Premiere Pro project and that's all folks !

I'm having exact same problem.

I also have no solution, but I am guessing the problem is that premier is opening windows explorer behind the main premier window, but because the software only wants us to interact with the windows explorer window to select our export location it freezes. I have had to force quit premier 20+ times in the last week because of this.

To confirm this is happening when I am trying to change the output location on premier when exporting.

The solution I found was to roll back to a previous version of 2022. There
have been several updates and one of them broke something. Going back a
version or two (I don't mean full year version, I just mean individual
updates within 2022) seems to be a temporary fix that allows me to work as
usual.

It's very clearly and Adobe created problem.

Are you using NDI Tools? it seems to me that this bug appears when you check a video device in the Preferences/Playback dialog. In my case is the NDI output but it could be other monitor or device. Let me know if you're using NDI because I. suspect that the problem is in their end.

Thanks Steve,

I'm not using NDI tools, so unfortunately that's not the issue here...

I am having the same exact issue. No error code, no message, just windows that turn white every time I click into file explorer to save in a new destination, export an EDL, OMF, etc. If I don't change the location that's already set, many times it will allow me to export, but this is not sustainable, and I can't export an OMF or EDL at all without the program freezing/crashing.

I'm on Windows 10. I'm fully up to date on everything for my system, the OS, all drivers, and the latest version of Adobe software. I've tried trashing preferences, full un-install and re-install of the adobe programs. I thought maybe my drive was going bad and even replaced two of my internal drives, and nothing solves this issue. This is critical and catastrophic.

Thanks nickh25435811 for confirming that it should not be an internal drive issue.

I still have no solution, so I still work on Premiere 2021 that has no problem.

Something has changed in the way Premiere 2022 handles windows files compared to Premiere 2021, and makes 2022 crash.

Hi there!

Sorry about the trouble. Do you get error codes or messages? Does it happen on a specific project?

Have you tried deleting cache files? https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-discussions/faq-how-to-clear-your-media-cache-in-premiere-pro/td-p/11017257

Let us know.

Thanks,

Kartika

Thanks Kartika,

Yes I did clean all the caches.

No error message, the explorer freezes and Premiere 2022 crashes.

I don't have this problem with Premiere 2021, so I guess the way exploring windows files has changed in Premiere 2022.

Maybe a conflict between Premiere 2022 and Dropbox or Sophos, if developpers have an idea on this ?
