Premiere Pro 2022 - Dynamic Link Not working with After Effects

After updating to PP 22, dynamic link with AE is not working. I've tried going to documents and putting OLD after dynamic link folder, but this did nothing.

This is so disappointing and am actually installing beta versions to finish a project.

Correct answer andz

Just an update on our side with regard on this dynamic link problem.

As of now with the latest update PP 22.11 AE 22.11 ME 22.11 , the dynamic link is working properly.

I hope also the lumetri will be fix soon.

Ill update here soon if something wrong comes up.

It's hard to see where things have gone in this thread. I just tried something that seems to have worked so hopefully it helps people here.
I opened an old AE project and resaved with from CC2022 with a new file name.
Then, in the corresponding Premiere Pro project, I right clicked all of the linked comps that show as offline media, hit the "link media" menu item and linked each comp individually to the newly-saved AE project. suddenly everything seems to be working fine, but just with this one project so far. My only other workaround has been to export comps as jpeg sequences to get something into premiere pro but that is super cumbersome and I don't enjoy tracking those rendered folders.

And I just tried it with a 2nd project - same success.
I think that you have to rename your AE projects to something new for this to work. opening one with the CC22 version and just saving isn't going to do the trick. Perhaps there's something in the autosave or metadata that's tricking dynamic link into thinking the AE project is an older version?
anyway I resaved 2 projects now with unique file names, relinked all the comps in premeire and it seems to be working as good as it ever has. hope this helps someone out.

I noticed that as long as AE had the linked file open, Premiere Pro will successfully connect to it.  However, if AE does not have the dynamic link file open, then Premiere Pro can no longer connect and if you try, PP would stop responding.

Renaming didn't do anything to solve the issue for me - only having the dynamic link open in AE.  Bad thing is, AE can only have one dynamic link open at a time.  If you have more than one dynamic link and you try to connect, PP will still lock up if you try to connect.

Same thing. Dynamic link not working, exports from Premiere Pro glitch in the sections where DL is used. Tried contacting support, gave me the run around, wasted an hour on trying to extort simple yes/no answers.

The update happened automatically, even though my settings are to only update manually. This is unacceptable. Deadlines getting missed because of this.

Just disable the multiframe rendering in AE and you would be fine.

In AE hit

edit

preferences

memory & performance

uncheck the multiframe rendering.

That worked for me

Dude. I don't recall even enabling it... It was enabled and disabling it worked. Thanks a lot, man.

Having the same kind of problem. On Mac OS Monterey and all programs are English and v22. AE files play fine in AE, but dynamic link in premiere just freezes the whole program even for psds. I literally cannot edit at all. Tried adding OLD to the dynamic link server folder but problem persists. If I revert to last version will I be able to continue working cuz I am losing money on this. Extremely angered at this situation. Thank you.

Has anyone without an enterprise plan managed to get hold of the 15.4.2 version so that we can downgrade to a secure version while waiting for this issue to be resolved? 15.4.1 has several critical vulnerabilities.

I'm in totally the same boat at the moment, working on a huge project at the moment with more links to AE than I can count.

Ever since everything went over to 2022 it's just crashing and can't cope with the linking.

I resaved the AE project in 2022 so it can least see it as the new version, but made no difference.

It's trashing edits, there is only so much going into AE and exporting individual sequences I can cope with. Taking far too much time. Is this going to be fixed soon??

revert to 2021 until a fix arrives...  search here for instructions on how to revert the project...

If you checked the FAQs for this forum, they've one on Pr/Ae dynamic link issues. It involves having the new multi-frame rendering in Ae turned on. Turn that off it may fix your problems.

That was working fine in the public beta but for some users the public release of that new feature has problems. Even though for most it doesn't. They're trying to get that sorted. How long until an update/patch, no one knows.

But for now turn off multiframe rendering in Ae if you're having dynamic link troubles.

Turning off multiframe rendering does not work.

Linking between AE and Pr was working fine, it wasn't until I tried to render in ME that all of a sudden Premiere Pro can't find the media (yellow screen) from dynamic link AE files and ME either won't load my projects or once they load and start exporting they freeze about 1/10 of the way through the sequence. Been working on getting a finished project to my client for about 3 hours now. Learning my lesson and turning off automatic updates from Adobe. I've done several uninstalls and reinstalls. I've cleared off my hard drive. I've tried loading the sequence directly from ME and exporting within Pr. Nothing works.

Unfortunately, made the decision to uninstall all 2022 versions and therefore lose my entire day of work. That seems like a better solution than restarting my computer 10 times a day. Nearly 100% of my Premiere projects include lots of Dynamic linking.

This does have something to do with After Effects' new "multi-frame rendering" feature choking the CPU, but I don't think there's enough data yet to know exactly how.

Only thing I've found that seems to work - First open the linked AE project > RAM render and save > open Prem app > delete all caches before opening Prem project > try to link media by right clicking on the AE linked layer in the project pane > locate and hit link > let prem freeze and then force quit > re-open Premiere > without clearing cache, open Prem project. Seems to work. Suuuuch a hassle but seems to be working. This is such a screw up, almost every project I'm working on has multiple linked Ae layers... FML

Maybe this will help:

I was having the same VERY FRUSTRATING problem, especially with a few deadlines looming. What solved the issue for me (at least for now) was to open the AE project, save as, and simply have it replace itself.

I am now able to re-connect the broken links and everything seems to be working ok.

Good luck to you all.

Thanks--that worked for me and saved me a lot of time recreating lower thirds!
