Premiere Pro 2024 Complaint

Hello,

I've been an avid Premiere Pro user for about 8 years now, and for 6 years I have been using Premiere Pro as my career as an editor. This 2024 update is the worst I've ever seen in all my years of editing. This was a huge step back and if I didn't have to be on the newest update for my job I would revert back to 2023.

Where do I start...to begin with, something simple yet so annoying is the audio transitions, with the new updated look of premiere it is now a pain in the butt to move a constant power left or right. Constantly it grabs the clip or the audio gain and moves it instead. It feels like a puzzle just trying to move audio transitions.

Next we'll move on to the crashing. I haven't had a timeline crash in YEARS, yet this new update is so unoptimized even with a 5k dollar pc with a RTX4090 I still will have to make multiple recovery project files for any video that peaks over 30 minutes. This is ridiculous. And they expect people to make movies on this software?? What a joke.

Speaking on optizmation lets move over to exporting. I haven't had a problem exporting with premiere in a while, especially after getting a new pc that should have no problem running massive project files. Yet I've had multiple files fail to export and give me error codes, therefore making me take off my GPU Acceleration rendering and change to software which doubles export time. HOW IS THIS A PROBLEM?? ESPECIALLY WITH A $1400 GRAPHICS CARD!! Yes the drivers are updated.

Next let's move on to how they took out obsolete video effects. "Obsolete" like no one uses them, yet I had to take time out of my day while editing a wedding video to go download the omitted effects to create a text effect.

Sorry for the rant but using this program every day as my job, this gets old fast. Makes me really consider switching to davinci resolve but my loyalty and experience with adobe holds me back. What I really want is for them just to finally optimize the freaking program. For 8 years it's always something new and I'm sick and tired of it.

This post is to see if others are having the same issues with the 2024 update and maybe someone in adobe might see this and spread the word to fix the bugs because it's honestly tiring.

I mean how can it get any worse? It's really such a poorly maintained product. Just basic audio functionality is 10 years behind. Shameful.

When new features don't behave as you'd expect, feel free to file a bug here. Our developers monitor the Bugs forum. I'll gladly advocate for any bug fix along these lines.

Perhaps a fellow user has a workflow tip or workaround for you in the meantime.

Did you say that issues occur with any sequence over thirty minutes long? Is it 4K footage or larger? Are the files 10-bit 4:2:2? How much RAM is installed in your system?

Unfortunately, you didn't mention the footage you are editing, which is usually the "X" factor for stability (crashing).

Potential format bug: Certain HEVC and H.264 formats wrapped in .mxf (usually Sony cameras) have a bug that is worked out in the Beta version. You can transcode or check out the Beta if that is your format. Could that be your issue?

If you have a format that is currently having trouble, many editors transcode or use proxies in the ProRes codec. These codecs are very reliable for editing and export. Our agents at Adobe Support can help you formulate workflows that are right for you given your current setup.

Can you be specific about your error codes? Most issues with exporting can often be solved by updating your NVIDIA driver. Although you say you have updated, ensure you perform a clean installation with the studio driver, not the game-ready driver. You can also try rolling back a driver version if the above does not help.

You can always contact Adobe Support for one-to-one troubleshooting, too. The chat pod is on the lower left. Once you connect with an agent, request that you speak with the "video queue," which is open Monday through Friday during business hours (PST).

Thank you for the response.

Yes, I am editing sony footage althought not in 4k. Thank you for letting me know about the beta version which I will definitely check out.

As far as the exporting goes I've had two separate error codes. One was GPU Render Error and the other was just Export Error. This had been my main issue of what I mentioned and so far all I can find online is to switch to software rendering.

Sure. I'm sorry about that format bug. It caused many problems for Sony users. The team has fixed it in Beta for most people.

It is possible your GPU driver is not being recognized. If a clean installation of the studio driver does not fix the issue, contact Adobe support, who will ensure it is correctly installed.

Software rendering with a supported GPU is a workaround. No one likes that one!
