Question

Premiere Pro 23.6 unusably slow on Mac studio M1 Max

I'm working on a Mac Studio M1 Max, 32 gb ram, Monteray 12.6.9 and Premiere Pro is so slow and laggy in 23.6 that it is impossible to use in any way. Every single mouse click or command results in 5 - 10 secs of spinning ball. Random actions happen. Actions as simple as stretching the timeline are impossible. Scrubbing is impossile and nothing plays properly. I'm working on a documentary which is just over an hour long, but not complex, and mostly pro-res proxies with some SD archive. Timeline at 1080/25fps I tried deleting the media cache and removing timecode tracks and text layer with no effect.  I have reverted to 23.5 version and it is much  better. I've been wary of going to Ventura, but would this help with the upgrade?

Cheers

Liza

I'm having the same issue. Very frustrating and hinders my editing time drastically. PP is 23.6 version, I'm on a MacBook Pro 2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7 with AMD Radeon Pro 5300M and Ventura 13.5.2  I've done everything possible in the world to fix this issue: empty trash, clear cache, lowered playback res, blah blah blah. Done it all. Still slow, and impossible to edit.

While I can't address the MacBook issues, I'm able to get normal playback on my Mac Studio after disabling my second monitor and just using my Apple Studio Display. Frustrating!

I've disabled my second monitor too, still no fix. I also just went back to Premiere Pro version 23.3 thinking that would do the trick and still having issues.

Same here on a MacPro 2019 - 16 core intel Xeon -  96 GB Ram - Ventura 13.2.6 - AMD Radeon Pro W5700X 16 GB- Blackmagic Extreme 4K - Premiere Pro 23.6

Premiere is way too slow to edit with. Every action takes up 3-6 seconds to respond.

And sometimes spinning beachballs.
Checked in Activity monitor. All CPU cores are low, except when Spinning beachball arives, then one of the cores (which one seems random everytime) peaks to the max for a few seconds.
Also the Progress indicator in Premiere (top right corner) is stuck at 65% but the Progress Panel opens completely blank. And after closing it, it cannot be opened any more until I restart Premiere Pro

My brand-new Mac Studio with an M2 Ultra and 196GB of RAM stutters playing back a single stream of XDCAM HD422 media. Premiere 2024.0.0. Yeah...

Hey Liza,

Are you using a multiple-display setup? Please also let us know if you have duplicate frame markers disabled. Please also test your media in the most recent Premiere Pro Beta and let us know if you still experience the problem. That could also help us get a better understanding of the issue.

Thanks,

Ishan

Having the same problem with this version.

Brand new Apple M2 with 64GB Ram.

Was running Premiere 22.6.4 and everything worked fine.

Upgraded to 23.6 and it's painfully slow. I had to go back to the 22.6.4

Editing mp4 proxies, which I've never had a problem with.

Seems the more cuts you add, or more length, the slower the sequences get.

DEFINITELY a problem with this version. Ran a few test sequences between both versions and 2023.6 is having the problem.

Have you tried reverting to previous version before the new version comes out?

That's terrible. I'm on Surface Pro 9 with 16GB of RAM and having no problems at all... (never had any on any of my Windows laptops)

Not ideal but maybe revert back to previous version for now? Adobe should be announcing a new version next month on Max so hopefully should work better for you?

I'm having the same issue on a M2 Pro Mac mini. Can't move clips, can't stretch items on timeline...etc
Any normal editing work results in a spinning wheel. I've cleared the cache, preferences, etc.. still having the same issue.
- Any ideas Adobe?

Moving to Davinci after this project is finished.
