premiere pro 24.6.1 (build 2) imported folder is empty

I have always been able to double-click in the project folder, choose a folder and click 'Import Folder' to bring the folder with all its contents into the project. Now, all of a sudden, with the latest version, when I import the folder it is empty, even though the source folder has (jpg) files in it. Can anyone suggest why this is happening and how to fix?
