Premiere Pro: Brand New, Fresh Install - won't playback in program or export watchable vidoes

I played around with a trial on this machine with no problems a few years ago, but I just reinstalled it because my work duties have expanded. Now I can't get it to work at all. Not even the tutorial video will work.

When I press play in any module, the play button changes to stop, but the video never moves

I CAN move through the video with the play head

I CAN drop and edit tracks in the timeline

Program crashes every time I exit

No audio

When I export a video using Premier, the video is unplayable.

I've seen two fixes so far. I've tried uninstalling and deleting the appdata/adobe/common folder and had the exact problem when I reinstall.

But I'm very hesitant to reformat and reinstall Windows (along with all my other programs) because it will require a TON of work on account of all the re-configuring my other programs will need.

intel 6700k

16 GB

500GB SSD

nvidia GTX 1060

could my soundcard be an issue? I use an audiobox USB interface instead of an internal card.... it sometimes crashes unexpectedly.

maybe i'm just setting up the project incorrectly?

Still no luck after multiple uninstalls and deleting all the possibly conflicting programs I can come up with.

Unless somebody has another idea, I'll be spending the rest of the day reformatting and reinstalling everything.

Sometimes it does come down to that.  Just be sure to back up important files first.

When you reinstall, only include the tools you need for editing.

andy.d.bell,

Sorry for the frustration.

You might try updating your NVIDIA GPU drivers. A clean reinstall would be best: FAQ: Why is my GPU not available for Mercury Playback Engine GPU acceleration?

Report back after doing this. Hope it helps.

Thanks,

Kevin

Thank you for the response.

I did update the GPU drivers, and restart Premiere, before i dropped any files into the project the first time around, so that's probably not the issue.

Also, just realized I didn't reboot after I uninstalled the first time around maybe that cause some problems on the next install. I just uninstalled and rebooted again, but I have to leave for the day, so I'll update the thread tomorrow with results either way.
