Premiere Pro Catalina new 16 Inch Macbook pro

I have been having terrible playback and usage with the new macbook pro. I understand its not fully supported with Catalina in the latest 2020, but I cant revert since the new mac ships with it.

Even at 1/4th can barely get the timeline to play smoothly, media can be pending forever.

Is there a patch on the horizon to improve usability? Anyone else having these issuse?

thanks

Hi Ricky,

Can you post a few more details and do some minor troubleshooting? I'm trying to collect some data on issues with tthe new MacBook Pro 16" especially with graphics and playback.

First, please post your system specs:

  1. Amount of RAM
  2. Which AMD GPU model
  3. Which version of Premiere Pro (exact x.x.x number)
  4. Is your Catalina install fully updated to latest release?
  5. Codec and size of your footage -- ProRes, H.264, HD, 4K, etc.
  6. Is your footage on the main hard drive or attached storage? If the latter, what type of drive and connection is it?

For troubleshooting purposes: if you're on Premiere CC2020 (v14.0) can you also try downloading CC19 (v13.1.5) and see if the same problems occur?

Sure glad to help

2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7

AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB

16 GB RAM

Premiere Build 14

Catalina, is one update short the latest, I may do that later.

I'm working a mixed project, c200 Raw, h264 4k mostly, working off two 7200 RPM thunderbolt 3 Gdrives as well as a 1TB SSD only for the scratch/cache

Struggles especcialy even worse if I try to run a external monitor, performance was simular and often worse than my 2016 macbook pro with the 2gb vram card.

Thanks for the input. I wasnt sure if downgrading a version would help since the mac is so new, but interested if that would help.
