Question

Premiere Pro CC 12.0 randomly crashing several times a day

I am running an iMac (late 2015):

-i7 4gz

-32gb

-Radeon R9 M395X 4gb

-OSX 10.13.2

My files are, exclusively, from the Sony A7R2:

-XAVC 25p/4k .mp4 -files

I don't have grades on the clips, just dropping selected clips onto the timeline and trimming them. Very basic edits.

I'll take a 5 minute break, come back to the app and it tells me it has "encountered a serious error" and it will attempt to save my work. It always takes me back 2-3 hours, at least, if I haven't been saving all the time. Which I should, I know that of course.

So, in a nutshell, the crash seems to happen when the program has been idle for, say, more than 2-3 minutes at a time. I can't figure out any other repeating patterns that I've done that would lead to said crash. During these breaks I do not use the computer for other tasks.

However, this is highly annoying and frustrating for a working professional with deadlines to meet. I can't keep adding hours into my workflow just because the program has some unknown issues and I'm already starting to consider jumping ship from Adobe to something else. I don't want to do that, but I am running out of options and/or patience.

Anybody else experiencing the same problem?

I am using a MacBook Pro (Mid 2014) and recently started running into the same issues, but, not isolated to Premiere just having issues.  I now have Acrobat running into problems with trying to edit.

The other day I was working on a simple video edit, where I was only shortening an already existing video.  It crashed while cutting the video with the same error as you.  I uninstalled Premiere after it happening a couple of times in a row and made it through the editing, only for it to crash when trying to export it as different file types.  I have the most recent Premiere 12.0.0.

Hi tuukkaervasti,

Sorry for the inconvenience. Is it possible to share us a screenshot of the error message?

It might be an issue with bad permissions. Please follow the steps in this article: fixing permissions problem that impedes start of Adobe applications | Creative Cloud blog by Adobe

& let us know the status.

Thanks,

Vidya.

Here's a screenshot:

This was waiting for me, again, after I was away from the computer for a while. It's either this or the "serious error" -message which comes up right before this message.

I did the permissions thing to no avail.

Oh and the "Report"  function just made the whole box disappear. I'll try to get a screenshot of that the next time this, inevitably, happens.
