I'm having this problem where Premiere keeps crashing on me.

Seems to be related to an import problem. When the project is able to stay open, usually after a computer restart, I get an error message in the bottom of the program which tells me there is an import error (Importer: 8 I believe.) When the program is able to stay open without crashing, it takes a few seconds to connect all media. But, when I try to reopen after a crash, all the media seems to be already connected and this is when it crashes.

I've had the program crash before when I open a bin that contains many of the files that I edit with.

I've noticed that Premiere sometimes gets touchy when I import with a right click in the actual bin that I want to import into and selecting import from there. It's like the program gets confused with this method of import.

In this project, I've imported files several ways. By dragging and dropping directly from the Finder window, by going to File > Import and by right clicking in the bins and selecting import from there.

Could this be part of the problem?

    I'm editing on  this machine:

    Mac-mini: OS High Sierra 10.13.2

Processor: 3 GHz Intel Core i7

    Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

    Graphics: Intel Iris 1536 MB

The same thing happens to me, importing heavier files will block the program. I have the latest version of CC 2017.1

I am having this same issue or one very very similar.

Was working fine for the past year on the surface pro 3...
have cleared media cache, uninstalled and reinstalled, uninstalled KB security updates on or around the time i suspected it started this importing failure.. have change the mercury playback settings to engine only.. im out of ideas on whats happened to all of a sudden have it just stop working...I also went through the machine and cleared up memory/file space.. moved the file location to an external hard drive.. still the same issue.. On import of video/audio media the media is pending forever and then the program crashes completely. This has only just started being a problem around the middle of this month 14-15th July 2017. Again not sure where to go from here but Premiere Pro has now become unusable.

Edit: I just tried a short clip, file size 250mb and it loaded up. However If i load multiple files at once, or any file seemingly bigger than this i experience the same error.
The file i tried importing after was 1.76GB and immediatly went to media pending and stayed this way. [again this has never been an issue before]

    Hi keithw,

Branched your post into a new discussion. (That discussion was too old)

    What are your computer specs?
    Which OS?

Which GPU is installed in your machine?

    Thanks,

    Rameez
