Premiere Pro CC 2017 serious playback problems

Hi,

My Pc is:

AMD 7 Ryzen 1800X

Asus X370 Prime Pro Mobo

Geforce Aorus Extreme 1080Ti GPU

Samsung EVO SSD

I usually edit on MAC but I just moved to windows 10. I have tested 2 different projects that used to run easily on a Mac Mini and they do not play smooth in Premiere CC in windows 10.

The main issues are:

- Even if I render the whole timeline, the playback is not smooth, is laggy, choppy, It is like the motion stops for 3 or 4 frames. This is happening with different kind of files and frame sizes. It is happening with C100 MTS files, also with Pro Res 4K and 2K files.

- When I push play, depending on how heavy are the effects in the sequence, it takes from 1 to sometimes 8 seconds to start playing.

- Sometimes, it will keep playing but the audio will be gone while video still plays.

Both projects never experienced something like that in the Mac Mini which is a much less powerful machine.

Cuda is activated in Premiere CC.

Below are the things I have tried without any success:

- Reduce Audio Latency

- Deactivate High Quality Playback

- Change Sequence

- Change Project

- Delete Cache Files

- Global deactivation of effects.

The lagging is exactly the same with or without all the effects,.

Truth is I put together this system because I needed to edit 4K files with ease, but now I feel that my old Mac Mini performs better then this machine and it can not be real.

I have seen the CPU usage during playback and is around 3-6% max.

I have also checked RAM memory with windows and it is all OK.

I guess it is related to the graphic card because the problem does not change with more or less effects applied to clips and it does not improve with rendering.

The delay in playback seems to me related to the way windows deals with hard drives, somehow, I feel that MAC is better for that, but I may be wrong.

Any help will be welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Alan

    Hi Guys,

After several tests I can clearly confirm that Adobe Premiere was dropping frames like crazy because of:

    - Bitdefender Antivirus

Also, Spyder Elite Calibration software running in the background was creating a bit of dropped frames, not as many as Bitdefender, but some. On the other site, Display Cal did not create any dropped frames. Now, without Bitdefender and without Spyder Elite, all is fine!!!!

    Thanks

you won't want to hear this, but it's definitely POSSIBLE that your issues are being caused by AMD Ryzen7.

Think about it... AMD has only just come out with a competitive CPU after like... 5 years?

Adobe products aren't really optimized for AMD.

granted, I don't understand this stuff nearly as well as I should, but I've heard a lot of people with AMD CPUS having issues.

One drive?  I recommend a minimum of five.

    System

    Projects, stills, audio

    Cache and Scratch

    Camera media only

    Exports

I also recommend the use of Cineform proxies for all H.264 media.

    Hi,

Thanks for jumping in. I have 6 Hard Drives. 4 HDDs and 2 SSDs. That is not the problem at all. I found the solution this morning. I did a windows reset and then install Premiere again from scratch and playback was ok.

I will install everything tonight and make tests after each software to pinpoint the culprit. I guess it maybe deskcapes, and that is my mistake, or Spyder calibration software.

    Thanks,

I would be surprised if Spyder was an issue.  Folks 'round here do use it and I don't recall anyone ever reporting any issues with it.

I do recommend installing only what you need for editing and system maintenance on an edit system.  No games, email, office, etc.  DeskScapes would not quality as essential here.
