Premiere Pro CC 2018 Doesn't seem to be able to search the Project Panel_05

I just ran into a similar problem - the find function wasn't working properly AND the search box was greyed out.

I realized that I had two projects open (my current project and an old one that contains video I'll be needing). It's a wonderful feature, but it may have been interfering with the search function. I closed out all programs (first FILE -> save curent projects, then FILE -> Close All Projects.

When I restarted Premiere Pro, all was well, all search functions worked.  I don't have time to experiment right now, but that might be part ofn the problem??
