Premiere Pro CC 2018, Preview play button broke

I'm having issues with premiere pro. Last month I got a new Alien Area 51 computer with Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080ti, 16GB system DRAM, 1TB SSD.  When I installed PP it was working properly for about 2wks, but now i'm having lots of different issues. These problems have changed over the last week, but seem to be related to the user interface. The current symptom is it won't play my video in preview at all when editing, which makes PP useless.  Also, when in the Effects workspace, if I click the Editing workspace option at the very top, the whole screen goes grey, absolutely nothing on the screen.  To get things back I have to go to the menu bar and select Window>Workspace> then select a different workspace.

Another symptom I had in the beginning of these problems, but has gone away, is the timeline bar wouldn't move when I tried click and drag left and right, moving around on the timeline. That seems to have fixed itself, but now i can't preview any clips with the play button while I'm editing.  Clicking the space bar changes the play button (arrow right) to a stop button (square), and vice versa, but the video or timeline won't play, regardless.

When I type C the cut tool works fine, and the V move tool works too, I can click and drag clips around OK.  A still video image does display in the play window, and when I drag the timeline right and left the video does advance and reverse like normal.  It just won't play any clips in the preview window when I click the play button (arrow right).

For the record I made sure I"m running the most current version Nvidia driver for this, as well as the most up to date version of PP with all updates.

I thought this might be a DRAM issue, but Adobe says only 8GB is required and a minimum of 16GB is acceptable.  I'm not running any other apps at the same time so I assume this amount DRAM should suffice.

Any ideas?  Anyone else seeing this?

I think you've got some workspace issues, and it's quick to check.

Click on any workspace header you've been having issues in ... then go into Workspaces and select reset to saved layout. Probably do this twice as sometimes people say it doesn't work first time. Maybe do all your workspaces like that.

See if that helps with at least some of the issues.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I reset all workspaces twice, but still no joy.  The play button doesn't work.  The single frame advance button works OK, but that has always worked, and I can drag the blue scrub arrow left/right within the playback workspace and that works OK, always has.  It's just the play button, no worky.   ??  Also, when I click "Editing" at the top, all workspaces go black (except for the very top menus like file, sequence, clip, edit, Window, etc..  I can get all of the workspaces back by going to Window>Workspace and selecting something else, like Effects.

    Any other ideas?

I have loaded PP CC 2017 and it works.  There's an option to load older versions, which helps me eliminate something in my computer hardware that's hosed up.  However when I reload CC2018 it doesn't work.  Strange situation.  I guess I'll have to use 2017 for a while until this gets fixed somehow.   I assume it's a bug in 2018 since 2017 version works.  I guess I should report this bug to Adobe, wonder how to do that.
