Premiere Pro CC keeps Not Responding

I am trying to edit my video in Premiere and I keep getting the "not responding" screen, and I am forced  to close it. After only a few clicks of editing, the screen freezes up, and it's been happening continually for the past few hours. I restarted my computer twice but it didn't help at all. I'm not quite sure what to do at this point, which does not help because the project I'm working on is very time sensitive. How can I fix this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My laptop specs:

Windows 10

8gig RAM

80gigs left of space on the HD

The minimum system requirement of Premiere CC:  2 GB VRAM | 8 GB RAM | 8 GB HDD space (additional free space required during installation). So it's very likely you need to improve the RAM. BTW, how about your graphics card?

For cc2018 - 2020 the minimum ram is 8gb, so you are right on the minimum, the recommended is 16gb. So, your machine is right on the border of not being adequate to run PP.

It sounds like you are running from an HD, IE: not an SSD. It could be PP thinking about it's next move and appears to be not responding, (I know it says so from time to time, but it may come back if you leave it long enough). Which of course isn't the point. But your hardware seems just from the two specs you gave to be not adequate.
